California SMOG Check Information
Vehicles four model-years old and newer (model-years 2000-2003, for registrations due after 1/1/2003 ) are not required to have a biennial (every other year) Smog Check performed until their fifth year. However, these vehicles must have a Smog Check performed if the vehicle is sold, or being registered in California for the first time.
What kind of SMOG check do I need?
SMOG check change by location, so use the above link to verify your area.
Are my aftermarket parts legal for use in California?
California requires a CARB EO # for any Engine or Exhaust part
The Other Guys Headers are currently the ONLY SMOG legal headers available
for use in California for the 1997+ Pontiac Grand Prix, Buick Regal and Monte Carlo.
CARB EO# D-509
What about my Airbox or CAI?
Currently the ONLY SMOG legal aftermarket air box is made by SLP.
SLP Air Box CARB EO# D-187-13
What about an aftermarket Down pipe and Converter?
First your car must be 5 years old or have more than 50,000 miles before you can replace your current converter.
Catalytic converters, such as those used with the Random Technology down pipe are placed too far back
from the engine to function properly. This will cause you to have elevated Hydrocarbon (HC) levels and
COULD cause you to fail your SMOG check.
